Councillor Gez Kinsella declares Quarndon's Community Garden officially open

From Quarndon's August Newsletter: 'The big event in August was the formal opening of the Community Garden by Gez Kinsella on 17th August. Gez is the new Derbyshire County councillor for our area.

Building the garden has been a joint effort by a team of villagers, led by Colin Clarke, and Futures Housing. They have done a magnificent job in developing the previously rather nondescript area into an attractive site.

There are some attractive flower beds and comfortable new benches. The Millennium "Human Sundial" has been completely renovated and planted with sedum.

The weather was rather dull but there was a good turnout.

After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a drink of Prosecco and a piece of cake.'

Futures Housing staff are passionate about turning the "green deserts" of closely mown grass on the Futures sites into places to be enjoyed by both the community and wildlife.

If you have not yet visited the garden then please come along, sit down on a bench and enjoy the view.
