Quarndon has won the ‘Best Entrance’ competition in the 'East Midlands in Bloom'

Quarndon in Bloom - Unexpected but Excellent News.

Quarndon has won the 'Best Entrance' competition this year. This is an award East Midlands in Bloom run every year, using things the judges have spotted whilst out and about, and which have specifically NOT entered East Midlands in Bloom.

Picture shows display at Park Nook. Quarndon will be receiving a certificate for this year's award.

It is with great regret that we hear of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

St Paul's Church will be open for private prayer and to sign the book of condolence 9.30 – 12 noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday the Rev Dawn will lead Prayers for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 12 noon. See details of service on attached poster.

Quarndon Parish Clerk - closed

After 10 years of excellent service our Parish Council clerk Laura Storey is leaving Derbyshire. We are looking for someone to fill the resulting vacancy. For details please see the attached notice.

Giant Hogweed Footpath 10

Giant Hogweed near Footpath 10

Giant hogweed has made another appearance on Footpath 10 near to Park Nook. There are two eight to eleven foot tall plants seventy or eighty metres down the field on either side of the hedge to the left of the footpath.

Big Jubilee Party starts at 2pm - Update 12:30pm

Quarndon's Big Jubilee Party will start at 2pm in the Cricket Club's clubhouse.

All activities will be indoors.Come and celebrate with children's craft activities, fancy dress, prizes... and of course a rousing rendition of the National Anthem.

Giant Hogweed by Footpath 11

Giant Hogweed in hedge

Avoid the Giant Hogweed plant growing approximately 50 metres along the field hedge to the right of the Church Road stile on Footpath 11.

Although attractive to look at this plant is not one to go near, and certainly not brush against as its sap can cause burns.

Giant hogweed contains furocoumarin, an organic chemical compound which makes skin extremely sensitive to sunlight. Sap on the skin plus sunshine... Read More »
