New Fences at Bunkers Hill

Footpath sign

Monday 3rd March: The first paragraph of this news item (in bold) has been amended to clarify any ambiguity about access to the Topograph on Bunkers Hill.

A fence has been erected between the permissive path* to the Topograph at Bunkers Hill and the rest of the field by landowner Kedleston Estate. Walkers from Quarndon can still use the permissive path to the Topograph from the stile at the top of the hill. However walkers must follow the permissive path down the hill to rejoin public footpath 6 next to Burley Wood if they wish to get to the stile at the bottom of the field. See the photograph of the sign at the top of the hill, included with this news item. Access to the rest of the field is now no longer possible. Please take care on footpath 6 in wet weather.

Public footpath 6 on Bunkers Hill is one of a network of paths criss-crossing Quarndon and its surrounding fields. For a downloadable Quarndon footpath map click on this link. https://www.quarndon-pc.gov.uk/uploads/quarndon-rights-of-way.pdf?v=1619556437

*Permissive path: That means the landowner has granted permission for the public to walk along it. On Bunkers Hill there is a sign where the path begins to show it is a permissive path. However, the landowner has the right to withdraw that permission. For more information about public footpaths see the link below.
